Noggin - 17th Oct.
Just for a change it rained. Notwithstanding the inclement weather 12 kan nie doods braved the elements to attend the bring 'n braai. The car gods must have decided that we had suffered enough so they kindly arranged with the rain gods to spare us a few hours of rain free weather from 7 till 10pm. A warm fire and an intimate number of people somehow gelled into a very pleasant evening. Perhaps because of the low numbers present people stuck together rather than breaking into fragmented groups, who knows? Whatever the reasons, what I had earlier in the day predicted as being a washout turned out to be an above average noggin. But please, bring on the sunshine.

Surprise, surprise, once again we awoke to pouring rain in Cape Town. Despite a few edgy phone calls, it was decided, that as the venue had been booked the run would take place. Geoff and Jill decided to cancel--no hard top, no soft top and to top it all, no windscreen wipers! So, at 9.30 am the die hards met at Firlands. As expected, given the appalling weather conditions, there was a veritable array of plastics on parade, but thanks to four TR7's and two Spitfires the Triumph standard was kept aloft. Bushpig was feeling shy and decided to get there on his own rather than run with the convoy, but before I get Herald owners all upset, let the record show that a Herald was also at FranschoekU Gerard and Istvan's mother and father in law--( in case you are baffled, the boys married sisters)--- Miem and Nikkie showed up in their recently acquired Spitfire which has been roadworthied and registered and which will now receive ongoing cosmetic attention. Andrew Uitenbogaardt also attended his first run accompanied by his family, but unfortunately his newly rebuilt Spitfire was substituted for a plastic due to the weather. We look forward to seeing this car in the near future. How nice also to see club members bringing whole famdammilys to this outing, the end result of which saw some 31 of us braving the elements en route to Franschoek via, Sir Lowreys Pass, Grabouw and Theewaterkloof pass. In spite of the rain and cloud' the scenery borders on the majestic and mores the pity that this run did not take place in glorious sunshine behind the wheel of an open top car! On arrival, after yet another trouble free run, we were pleased to note that Gideons remains Gideons. The service was swift and efficient, the food was of the same standard we have come to expect from this establishment, and thanks to good liaison on the day between Nerina and Gideons, they were able to accommodate us indoors, nogal with a heater for the single ply ruggeds! I would have to say that this was one of our more adventurous runs, which despite, or perhaps because of, the adverse weather, turned out to be one of the most enjoyable.
