Noggin 15th May 2002

This was supposed to be BP’s night and we were going to be told all about BP Super Cleaner, a revolutionary fuel that will mean that we won’t have to change our valve seats when lead gets phased out in 2006. Well late on the Monday before the event BP called to say they couldn’t make it…… Fortunately Lin Ward a retired electrical engineer and one of the most informed car fanatics I have ever met, especially on early car history, stepped into the breach and gave us an entertaining, and very detailed (!) slide show of a recent time he spent in the USA attending a vintage rally and other places of automotive interest.

Month End Run 26th May 2002

The day started out looking a bit grey but then began to clear up and just as well as we were about to do a drive right around the mountain. We all trooped off from The River Club in an orderly fashion and took the scenic route through the city bowl, over Kloof Nek, down into Clifton, and then along the Atlantic seaboard past Llandudno, through Hout Bay and over Constantia Nek to Constantia village. Every time I do this drive I wonder at the sheer beauty and majesty of Cape Town that we so often take for granted. We arrived at Piazza Trevi in Constantia safely to a big screen all to ourselves!

Recommendations from those who had eaten there before was that “The food was great, but the Spaghetti Bolognaise was ‘not as good as Mike Napoli’s’. Take that Piazza Trevi!”

The sweepstake hat (can’t imagine who it belonged to….) was passed around and those who wished bought tickets at R10-00 per driver. Great excitement as it started and it was a really good race. A memorable occasion as Michael Schumacher did NOT win! First, David Coultard, second Michael Schumacher, third Ralph Schumacher. If you’re a winner be at the Noggin to collect your winnings.

Lunch was deliciously long and we all stumbled home after another great run.
