Mid-Month Fun Run to Houw Hoek Inn with Jaguar Club- Sunday 17 June 2007

Reportback by Jamie Hart

As our chairman said previously, if you missed it you missed out big time! About 60 cars assembled at the Engen N2 service area for the run. The weather forecast predicted dire happenings for the afternoon, but the morning was one of those beautiful Cape winter mornings, albeit with a howling north westerly wind!

The organizers had taken various shots of features on the way that everyone had to identify, plus a quiz sheet on car knowledge. The route went via Stand beachfront to the coast road past Kleinmond with a fling up Houw Hoek pass to finish at the Houw Hoek inn. 5 Triumphs started but Gerhard turned off at the end of the beachfront for Father's day duties. He was more than capably replaced by Brian and Sheila in their TR7.

After a hiccup due to the throttle cable on Neil's TR5 having snapped, a really super run ensued with the wind literally at our backs. I am not sure who was racing who but Neil and I both enjoyed ourselves immensely. The coast road on a fine day with little traffic is a special form of motoring! The Jaguar club had laid on a really good buffet spread at Houw Hoek, there was much conniving as to the answers to the questions before handing answers in.

Prize giving was great fun, there were alcoholic prizes for most clubs, the Triumph prize went to Neil who should have had to donate part to the repair crew!! The organizers had gone to great lengths to ensure everyone had a great time and are to be congratulated. The one big comment, please next time check dates to see what is on, i.e. Fathers' Day!!

And just to finish, having looked out of the restaurant window to see lovely blue sky, by the time we got to the car park the front had arrived and the heavens opened. Guess who only had the tonneau cover on and had to put their hood up in the rain!!?? A very wet run back home followed with everyone arriving back safely, a great day out!
