Month end run- Struisbaai : 27th May

Report back by Gordon Waring

When I saw that the May Month-End Run was going to be at Struisbaai I immediately signed up! Struisbaai would only be half the distance to Cape Town so it was a case of "If not, why not!" A couple of days before I had some minor exhaust work done on my TR6 at the local exhaust shop in Riversdale in preparation for the trip. I left the farm on Saturday morning at the same time as the guys from Cape Town departed so I could arrive in Napier for lunch with the group. Sadly my exhaust was giving me more problems so I again called in at the exhaust shop in Riversdale where they removed a broken stud on the exhaust manifold and installed a bolt and nut since no Imperial studs were available. Two hours later I again set off. All went well for the first 50 miles but then one helluva noise ensued. I carried on to Struisbaai arriving well after the lunch and sadly missed Nick Joubert's crop dusting demonstration.

We then settled in at our host's home to watch the Bokke wallop the lads from The Land of My Forebears by an amazing score of 58-10. Op Die Bokke! Following the rugby Bob Melvill and Nick Joubert sorted out my TR6 exhaust problems which allowed me to relax for the remainder of the trip. Thanks chaps!

After this Nick and Denise went to work preparing a super braai for us which lasted well into the night. The next day after breakfast Nick organised a boat trip for us sea-faring lads which gave us a very pleasant tour of Struisbaai. We then drove our Triumphs (and plastics) to The End of Africa, Cape Agulhas. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse which gave us 360 degree views on a beautiful day. We had a super lunch at the restaurant lighthouse and then bid our farewells to Nick and Denise.

I would like to thank Nick and Denise for all their hospitality. It was a super weekend and a nice break away from the farm for me. For those who didn't make the trip, all I can say is "Sorry guys, you missed one of the best TR trips!"
