PICNIC AT STEENBRAS
Report-back by Jamie Hart

A very much reduced number of cars made it through to Steenbras for this year's picnic. Most met at the Engen 1 stop and proceeded down the N2 to find a police roadblock in Somerset West. Some of the more illustrious members had to show licenses before catching up with Jenny and myself on the N2. A fairly quick convoy led by Peter and Monica whistled along the coast road to Steenbras river to be met by Brian and Sheila in their TR7.

Every one soon got down to the serious business of getting breakfast ready. Gerhard looked the part preparing for the feeding of the 5000 with his new go faster skottel, while Tim showed us his dancing skills also extend to cooking. After last years masterpiece by Gian (we miss you) Mani, the levels of cooking skills were much improved. Chris and Heather Cockett brought cold cuts for the hot day. Only our tour guide, young Ricardo, got his information messed up and was soon heading back for a proper breakfast in Gordons Bay.

Every one else had a great time, the only major problem being lack of shade on a very hot day so most people soon headed back for shade at home. The more adventurous headed along the coast road to check cars out and a cool drink at Rooiels before heading for home and some well deserved beers.

Maybe next year we need to look for a more shady spot (the proper Steenbras site Richard!) or maybe have the picnic a bit later in the year
