Back to Events Tygerberg Wheels Show - Saturday 7 October 2006
Reportback by Jamie Hart
Well the wind huffed and puffed and eventually brought some of the house down so the show came to an end just after Province had lost the semi final of the Currie Cup.
That just about summed up the state of affairs at the show. We had a some what disappointing turnout of cars from the club, 1 TR8, 1 TR7, 2 TR6s, 2 Spitfires and the yellow peril, Eileen's GT6. The star of our stand was the appearance of the 3 litre bi- turbo Noble, the only one in South Africa which certainly pulled in the crowds and was a really super specimen of auto engineering. We were next to the Jaguar club who also were struggling for exhibits.
Those who made the effort were rewarded with some wonderful opportunities to see some rare cars; the GSM stand opposite had some excellent examples and a wide range of as found to concours examples. There was a large stand that seemed to cater for German military equipment from World War 2 that was certainly different and had some fascinating examples of military ingenuity.
Plenty of examples of Fords, ancient and modern, plus Moggie Thous and all sorts of other quirky cars lovingly restored by their owners. Modern machines a plenty so there really was some thing for every one and the large crowd seemed to enjoy themselves. A large beer tent with M Net set every thing up but some one forgot to tell the team at Loftus the script so a very fed up tent at the end of the game!
The wind had put an end to the show, deposited large amounts of sand in the cars and made driving back home interesting to say the least. The other yellow peril made tyre companies happy with spectacular wheelies on the way back so a reasonable day was had by all. It was interesting to note the lack of MG's so may be a review of where we go next year is called for.
