Triumph Cape Conundrum, followed by a braai and the AGM.

The Triumph Cape Conundrum

A rally with a difference - no maps, just clues and boy did I get it wrong!!! Ian Haupfleisch organised this and a huge amount of effort and organisation went into getting it right. I was very disappointed to when there was only 6 cars at the start, 4 Triumphs and two plastics. We thought that it could have been the weather, but there was a little rain early morning and clear skies when we started the event. First off were Ian's sister and a friend in a plastic, soon to be followed by Gian and Gerda in another plastic. (New Mini as Gian's TR3a was in the garage for repairs and was ready but the owner decided to go racing so Gian could only collect his car on Monday). Then Eileen and Tim left in their GT6, followed a couple of minutes later by Mike Jakubovski and a friend in their TR6.

GP and I were the last to leave in our TR7v8 and got the first clue spot on. I arrived at the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay just in time to see Gian's Mini being pushed into a parking bay. Some mechanical failure ensured that Gian'S Mini had to be towed in by the AA. Eileen and Tim arrived just before us at the Brass Bell and we then moved the charcoal and "stuff" for the bring and braai after the AGM to my car and we set off. Tim and Eileen decided to stay with Gian and Gerda until they were sorted out. The second clue was in the form of a crossword puzzle and while I was driving tried to complete the puzzle.

I got a couple of clues, and to my downfall saw the last clue as something HILL. I told GP not to worry anymore as we needed to go over RED HILL and will find a Spar somewhere there for our next clue. Was I mistaken, didn't find any Spar and just before we got to Kommetjie, decided to give it up and call Ian Haupfleish to ask where I had to go to. I was way off track and took about another 15 minutes to get back to the right spot, which was the Spar on Black Hill road. Needless to say I must have lost at least 30-40 minutes on this one. When I arrived, there was Eileen and Tim, already received their next clue eating boerewors rolls. Had a chat with them, received our next clue and went off on our merry way again. Took the right road, but wrong shopping centre.

Eventually we ended up at the Red Herring, where Eileen and Tim were again waiting. We got a couple more clues but as time was running out decided to call it a day and head for the clubhouse to conduct the AGM. This was a real fun event, and when we do this again, ensure that I have a navigator that knows the area a little better than I do. Mike and his friend arrived after we concluded the AGM, just in time for the prize giving as follows: Ian's sister and friend first prize, Eileen and Tim second prize and "longest day" went to Mike Jakubovski. Thanks go to all who participated and to Ian and Delmarie for all the hard work in organising a superb event. We would like to do it again in the future, but will ensure that we have no time limits and be able to finish!!

THE AGM

There were about 20 people when we arrived just after five 'o clock from the Cape Conundrum. We then got everything ready for the meeting and started about twenty minutes late. The meeting was conducted in good spirit and Gian Mani presented the club financial statements and we agreed that the membership fees will increase by R30.00 per membership only to cover the increase in costs for the Sabrina quarterly magazine.

The Des Rudolph trophy for "The Most Supportive Member for the Year" was presented to David Frew for his continued support and assistance at club events and also for starting up the club's spares database, which you will receive a copy off with this newsletter. Well done David and thank you for your support. The "Dipstick Award" was held over until a future event. No concours or driving medals were presented as we did not have concours or driving tests since the last AGM.

The following members chosen to conduct the running of the club for 2006:

COMMITTEE:
o Gerhard Vorster - CHAIRMAN;
o Gian Mani - TREASURER;
o Tim Cruise - SECRETARY;
o Eileen Cruise - NEWSLETTER EDITOR;
o David Frew - SPARES CO-ORDINATOR;

Other portfolios:
o Neil Draycott - Multi Motor Club Representative;
o Margaret Young - Sabrina Scribe;
o Theo Brand - Clubhouse manager;

A decision was made to ask members to organise month end runs and we got a number of volunteers for that. Watch the next newsletter for more details on this.
