Back to Events CLASSIC TOURING CAR RACING - OPEN DAY
DATE : Sunday 2 October 2005
VENUE : KILLARNEY CIRCUIT
This is a reminder for you to enter into your diary that Classic Touring Car Racing Section of the WPMC will again be hosting their open day at the Killarney Circuit on Sunday 2 October 2005.
The aim of this day is to:
1. Primarily promote our sport by creating awareness and interest and to :- a. Promote and inspire new members into joining us as fellow competitors in: i. Classic Touring Car Racing, ii. Marque Car Racing iii. Sports Car Racing b. Further develop interest and spectator support in our racing and motor sport in general.
2. To promote the interest in Classic and Exotic Cars in general.
3. Give the general public and classic car enthusiast the opportunity to enjoy a hands-on day at the racetrack, driving their own Classic Cars and/or being taken around the track in a race car or just standing on the trackside enjoying the experience.
4. Create an environment where all the different Classic and enthusiast Car Clubs can promote their Clubs (i.e. sell their regalia, recruit new members, etc.) and show their cars.
With this in mind we invited various Classic Car Clubs and their members to join us for the day. Subject to availability, each Car Club that attends will be allocated a pit garage for their use. If possible this garage should be decorated with your club's banners, regalia and if possible a show car or two. We have invited the clubs to promote and sell club regalia. If it should happen that the garages are all allocated there are also covered carports available. Like last year all participants will be offered a basic track skills/driving course. This will be in the form of a lecture presented by highly experienced racing drivers and will address basic track skills and etiquette with a video, followed by on the track driving tuition by our driving instructors.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A RACE DAY
Once participants have completed the basic driving course they will be allowed to drive their cars around the track for the day. The day is intended to be a fun day. Reckless or aggressive driving will not be tolerated at all. The track will be fully marshalled. There will be a limited number of cars allowed on the track at any given time. Any reckless drivers will be black-flagged and stopped from driving for the rest of the day. Our aim is a fun, safe day.
The days programme is still to be finalised but will probably follow this agenda:-
8:30 Start scrutineering of cars.
9:00 1st Lecture and video on track driving skills for all non Classic Car Racing Club members and persons who want to drive on the track, followed by individual driving tuition on the track by racing driver instructors.
09:45 Track opens for circuit driving - Morning session.
10:00 2nd Lecture and video on track driving skills for all non Classic Car Racing Club members and persons who want to drive on the track, followed by individual driving tuition on the track by racing driver instructors.

14:00 Track opens for circuit driving -Afternoon session
15:00 Classic Race Car & Marque Car display

To make it more of a family outing (not only a dad's day) we will also try to have facilities that cater for the rest of the family such as jumping castles, go-carts and face painting for the kids - as we did last year. We will again also have music and compares in the pit to get the spirit up.
We need your assistance to make this the day a great day for Classic Car enthusiasts in Cape Town. Please can you volunteer to help with driving instruction, scrutineering, general organisation, etc.
