Back to Events MONTH END RUN: SNAPPERS - 26 JUNE
by Gerhard VorsterWhat do they call a beautiful sunny day after two solid days of rain?? Monday!! It seems that this year all our dams will be 100% full as it rained again on Saturday night and was threatening on Sunday morning. When we left for the N1 it cleared up and we had no rain until we got to Snappers at about lunchtime. I didn't expect many people on the day because of the inclement weather, but boy was I surprised. There were 36 in all!! I arrived at the N1 Engen with my own convoy from Somerset West in my newly acquired TR3a, father in law and GP in my TR7V8, Johan and Bernadette in my Spitfire and Hennie and Theresa in his Mercedes SLK.
The TR3a is a totally different drive to the TR7v8 or the Spitfire and I am really enjoying myself in it. There was 1 x TR3, 2 x TR3a's, 1 x TR4A, 1 x GT6, 1 x Spitfire, 3 x TR7's and a number of plastics. After coffee we left for Gordons Bay and after explaining the way we would travel, three times, Gian left first and guess what? Yes, he took the wrong turn, but soon realized it and joined the convoy again. We had a great scenic drive through Stellenbosch and along the Strand Beach front to Harbour Island in Gordons Bay. There were also a number of members that went directly to the restaurant and we really had a good time with good food, wine and conversation with fellow Triumph enthusiasts. Then the rain came down again and it poured while we were dining, makes you drink doesn't it!!!
