Back to Events Month end run: 3rd APRIL
29 people, including three of the walking wounded (Eileen, Brian Maggs and myself), turned out on a beautiful morning to "test drive" a proposed national gathering route run and enjoy a brunch at the Birkenhead. By comparison to recent outings there were more plastics' than usual (5) but as is to be expected, Triumphs dominated.
An interesting aspect of this run is that we did not do it in convoy. Everybody was given a map with instructions and then sent off to run at their own pace. Aah, that's more like it. The roads were for the most part in perfect condition, (Possibly the last remaining stretch of public road which can be so described??) and reasonably legal speeds could be maintained all the way.
The Birkenhead is stunningly situated and if it could take our breath away, heaven only knows what effect it will have on our visitors. But was it perfect?? We had a beautiful day, a stunning run and a magnificently situated venue. All the elements were there, but, in the final analysis, I found myself having to agree with Nic when he said, "it is an awfully long run for a city breakfast" (at least that's what I think I heard him say).
