Month End Run: Sunday 1st August
Annual Wimpy breakfast run to Hout Bay.

Good grief, where did all these cars come from?? Typical winter rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of no less than 14 Triumphs and 4 plastics together with the 28 or so people accompanying them. (60 odd people attending Triumph functions in the space of 10 days. Anoraks, is this a record?). For once the plastic drivers had reasonable excuses, I had to help my daughter move house immediately after the breakfast and the bakkie carries far more cargo than a Devin, Chris Schultz had early morning starting problems (with the car) and had to revert to Marions plastic, Nic and Margaret somehow crammed themselves into Nic;s re built "day " car for its inaugural run (all twin cylinder 500cc of raw Italian horsepower) and a friend of Peter du Sautoy's, Dale Peters who is mad keen on Triumphs but does not as yet own a Triumph.

But forget all that, how was this for a Triumph display: 3 x TR7's; 2 x Spitfires; 1x TR4A; 1x GT6; 1x TR5; 1x Bushpig Herald; and no less than 5 of those suddenly commonplace TR6's. Steely eyed readers will note the complete absence of any side screens. So much for the hyped up "double rugged" brigade, a few drops of rain and they stay home and play with their hair driers. Amongst the people, there were new faces as well as faces seldom seen. Our IT man, Paul Mitchell and son put in a welcome attendance and we were more than pleased to welcome Mike and Sue (sorry did not catch the surname) from Fish Hoek, who have recently purchased a TR6 from our Northern neighbours. Thinus Kruger once again put in an appearance with his 1500 Spitfire as did young Andrew Frew in his Spitfire MK 4. It is pleasing to report that nobody got lost or bitched about the speed of the convoy from Constantia to Hout Bay. Oh, and by the way, the breakfast at the Hout Bay Wimpy once again proved good value for money. Sorry, no cuisine details, we are a car club you know.
