Back to Events Month end run to Stellenbosch
Sunday 26th JuneWow, where did all these cars come from: 3x TR6s, 3x side screens, 4x TR7s as well as a TR7/8 conversion, 2x Spitfires, a GT6, the mighty Bushpig Herald and would you believe it, not one plastic. The numbers should have further been bolstered by a TR5, but its owner, who shall remain nameless, to spare him any embarrassment, forgot the date. C'mon Neil-wake up.
Even the weather Gods granted us a perfect autumn day, custom made for sports car motoring, although the chill air meant that quite a few soft tops stayed up. Local hero Jamie Hart lead the convoy in his highly desirable TR6 departing from the Engen 1 Stop on the N1 and following a scenic route, which included travelling over one of my favourite passes Hells Hoogte (why does this pass always bring out the hooligan in some of our members??), before arriving at the Aristrata Restaurant in the Stellenbosch Techno Park for lunch. On arrival we noticed that one of our Spitfires and two of our members were missing. Gerhard doubled back trying to find them while Gian amused himself by driving Bob Melvill's side screen. Gerhard returned sans Spitfire, and Gian returned with a burning desire to carry out a rack and pinion conversion, ala Bob's car, to his own side screen. Without further ado we tucked into the grub that was on offer and halfway through the meal loud exclamations in a certain Greek type accent indicated that our Spitfire duo had eventually found the venue.
Pity, as this was the only blot on an otherwise perfect outing.
