Breakfast in Kleinmond
Sunday 30th May

9am, on the kind of beautiful autumn morning that only the Cape can offer, saw a good collection of cars and people meeting at the Engen 1Stop before proceeding via the magical Rooi Els coastal route to Kleinmond for breakfast. Seeing that both Peter and Monica du Sautoy, as well as Neil (rackless) Cameron and his lady friend Bronwyn were in attendance, we were treated to the sight and sounds of two TR5’s, not to mention three TR7’s, (how nice to see Edith in the passenger seat of Des’s car), a TR8, piloted by friends of Gerhard, two Spitfires (one of which naturally had Nic and Margaret on board, the other our Chairman with wife Suzette), a proper, medal winning TR6, and the TR3 based Devin.

As if you did not know, Ronan and Charmain were there in a plastic!! Apart from the plastic, the musical cacophony of sound produced by the exhaust notes from the convoy reverberating against the mountainside was something that had to be heard to be believed. Apart from the Devin losing its oil filler cap the trip was uneventful as far as disasters are concerned. At the delightful harbour café we all tucked in to a hearty breakfast. Our Worcester resident, Ettiene Laing, was spending the weekend at his holiday home in Bettys Bay, and in true Ettiene style graciously invited everyone over for a cup of coffee. Unfortunately we were expecting friends??? (Gian Mani returning from an assignment in Ladysmith) to join us at home for the screening of the Grand Prix, so, we could not join those who did accept Ettiene’s hospitality. Oh well, maybe next time.
