Back to Events Whales ‘n Wheels, Hermanus 2003 Sat Oct 4th
This year’s Whales ‘n Wheels Classic Car Show will take place in Hermanus on Saturday, 4th October at the Old Station Site behind the Hermanus Info Office.
Following the success on the inaugural show last year, the organizers have gone to great lengths to ensure that this year’s show will be better than ever. Catering facilities have been arranged to suit all tastes, and braai facilities will be available on site for those wishing to cater for themselves, with tea and coffee available throughout the day. And we would like you to consider making a weekend of it!
Alan Johnson, former presenter of the television programme “Drivetime”, local classic car enthusiasts Danie Loubser, and Tor Bovim, are putting together what should be a great day for motoring enthusiasts to get together with like-minded enthusiasts, and are hoping that last year’s turnout of 87 classics will be more than surpassed. For those who would like to make it a “classic” weekend, secure parking has been arranged for those wishing to stay over, special discounted rates on B&B have been arranged with several guesthouses, only for those participating, and Birkenhead Breweries in Stanford are putting on a Breakfast Run Brunch on Sunday 5th October, with a tour of the local brewery, for R40 per person. So make a note in your diary for Saturday 4th October, and indeed the entire weekend, and come and join the Whales ‘n Wheels Classic Car Show in Hermanus.
Trophies will be awarded to the “Whale of the Show” for the car the judges decide is the best on show, and three more trophies will be awarded in various classes for the “Wheelcalfs of the Show” plus lots of additional prizes including a free weekend for two at Alan Johnson’s guest house, The Potting Shed. Participants are requested to assemble at 9.30am at the old Station site, Mitchell St. A parade of about 30 selected cars will parade through the center of town at 10.30am. The prize-giving,which will conclude the day, will be held at 3.00pm.
Entrants intending to drive out on Saturday morning are advised to make allowance in planning their trip for the heavy traffic volumes on the R43 leading into Hermanus. For further information please contact Alan at 028 312 1712 or Tor Bovim at 028 313 0318.
Last year the traffic was heavier than normal, but o.k. We had an excellent weekend and left lunch time on Sunday in light traffic. Recommended. ED
