Back to Events Wimpy Breakfast – “Rain rain go – Away”
May 24th 2003When Jill phoned and asked me quickly to write about the outing for the Newsletter, Gordon said well there isn’t much to say except it rained, and I also decided I won’t fill pages of my diatribe again, having realised they’ve been running way over these last few issues.
Since it was the Brian Maggs Wimpy Breakfast Run, we had the honour of following the Maggs’ TR7 in our TR6 to Constantia where we met everybody at 9.00am on a cold windy Sunday morning. Poor Nerina, unwell with flu, was subjected to the open top Devin, but they were not the only open top car. We followed the Triumph convoy to the Hout Bay Wimpy, which is actually in a lovely setting - probably one of the prime Wimpy positions. Although the management was pre-warned by Jill, I think the Wimpy was a bit overwhelmed by the en-mass arrival of us all. Coffee was the order of the day after arrival, instantly to warm us up. A good fry-up breakfast was enjoyed by all, although Jill and I discovered their health breakfast to be most enjoyable, and far less calories than the great fry-up.
There were a few wise members, who had good service, and left straight after breakfast, while others lingered over another cup of coffee, which entitled the heavens to open further and open they did. I’m not sure how many Triumphs are rain-proof, and don’t allow the water to get in somewhere. We kept on waiting for the rain to ease just a little, and that it did not do, at least not until the time of our departure. The Harts joined us just briefly before their departure to Australia the same day, and were wise enough to come in their “Plastic” (Volvo). John had to put his soft-top up in the pelting rain and he probably gets the prize for getting the wettest, and the Harts for the driest. We were pleased to be joined by Lavinia in her Vitesse and her husband David in his Stag, plus John and Win in their TR6. It was a good social breakfast and I hope everybody arrived home safely and fairly dry after that downpour.
