‘Betty’s Bay Brunch’

We do have some wonderfully kind and generous members – namely, Etienne and Betty Laing from Worcester, who invited us to a brunch in their delightful holiday home in Betty’s Bay.

We had two meeting places on Sunday morning – the Engen One Stop on the N2 and the BP Garage in Gordon’s Bay. After having collected everyone we headed in convoy on the coast road to Betty’s Bay. It was a very windy day, needless to say we started with the soft top down but by the time we hit Gordon’s Bay we thankfully put it up – and it wasn’t totally my decision! It is such a beautiful drive along this coast, absolutely suited for a sports car drive. We also appreciate that it was ‘our side of town’ and we didn’t have to get up too early!

We arrived at the Laing’s lovely holiday home that had been completed only three weeks ago - it is so comfortable and livable. We were welcomed to morning tea/coffee/juice and cream scones. The Laings are obviously used to these windy days and had a lovely braai/fire going in the open-plan lounge area. After we warmed up with the refreshments, we left the over-worked ladies and were taken on a drive through the beach area of Kleinmond and finished up at the shopping centre Betty Laing and Beautrix Etienne Laing and Piet on the beach. The men gave us a while to walk and shop around. I, for one, really enjoyed this experience, as we must be one of the few people who do not know this area. There were some cute shops there, and even a liquor store open on a Sunday – now that is worth remembering. I even thought we ought to consider another breakfast run out here again, and we can then have breakfast at any one of the restaurants of our choice.

On our return we were treated to a scrumptious brunch completed while we were out driving around. The brunch started with some light beverage to warm us up, and it was followed by freshly baked bread, wors, eggs, tomatoes, figs and jam, tea, coffee and juice again followed by some lovely cake deserts. (I enjoyed them but don’t know what they are called.) We all ate, drank and really enjoyed the hospitality and lovely relaxed atmosphere with friends, and then headed back along the coast road.

Now, we need to talk about those not in their Triumphs (I think this alternative form of transport is called plastics) Rowan (Mr One Day ) was in his recently repaired Opel, and, Gian Mani was not in his TR3A. He said he was trying to sell it for whatever offer he can get – as he is really very fed-up with his TR3A now…something about a blown head gasket I over-heard! (I think Gian is only joking about selling his car, as we know he is very fond of his TR3A.) Hope you get it fixed soon Gian. We missed the Napoli’s who I believe were at a motorbike race meeting somewhere. It was great to see Chris and Marion out with us again in their new TR7.

Anyway, a big THANK YOU to Etienne and Betty and their friends Piet and Beautrix for a lovely outing.
