Model Car Concours and Braai

Triumph Model Car Concours and Braai On 15 Jan the monthly noggin was a model car concours / braai held at the Multi Car clubhouse in Parow. Peter du Sautoy and Ronan Sanderson had a display of various Triumph models varying in scale from 1:100 to 1:18 (and no Mike your 1:1 Triumph does not qualify for the model concourse, even though it is a model of the Triumph family).

Peter’s collection included a model of nearly every Triumph he has owned over the years, some of which included a Triumph 2000, GT6, TR5, TR2 & a Spitfire. Geoff Davis had on display a collection of wanna be Triumph models made out of Technic Lego. He also had a garaged TR7 that no one could find!!! In all 11 Triumphs were entered into the model concours, some of the more interesting models entered included Dave Gordon’s 1:43 ‘Bushpig’ replica of his Herald convertible (albeit a resprayed model), Margaret Young’s 1:43 ‘Ricky’ replica of her red and white Herald saloon, as illustrated, and Peter du Sautoy’s entry of a 1:43 TR2 rebuild, fitted with racing screens.

The concourse was judged by all Triumph club members present on the evening during the braai, with each member requested to give their respective first, second and third favourite models. At the end of the evening all scores were added up. Joint third place went to Gordon Waring & Dave Gordon, first and second place went to Chris Schultz. The first placed model being a 1:43 model of a #28 1955 Le Mans racing TR2 (manufactured by Eagle Collectibles), as illustrated. The prize for first place was a 1:43 Apple green Triumph TR3A (below) with an open top (manufactured by Vanguard). This model, like its big brother, is also a collector’s item, only 5300 units of this particular model were ever produced.
